EU-Canada Trade Simulation
Date: June 7th-11th
Time: All Day
Location: Dunton Tower, Room: TBD
The EU-Canada Trade Simulation is scheduled for June 2010 in Canada. The teams consist of graduate students of international trade, economics, international affairs, and international law. They will be responsible for drafting a negotiating text for a free trade agreement. The EU and the Canadian teams will select experts to negotiate trade in goods, services, agriculture, government procurement, investment, and intellectual property rights. A chief negotiator will represent each team and must also prepare suggestions for negotiating Trade and the Environment and Trade and Labour issues. Students may consult their coaches for advice on the negotiation, the text, issues, and other preparatory concerns. The agreed text of the negotiation will be circulated to the public for educational purposes in Canada and the European Union.
This simulation is based on the current agenda for Canada and EU negotiations. For the purposes of the simulation, participants will be divided between two teams, one representing Canada and the other European Union. Each team will consist of four groups of two-to-three students for total of eight-to-twelve members on each team. Each group will be responsible for one of the identified priority issues. The simulation will take place over a five-day period. Teams of students will act as delegates from either Canada or the European Union. Participants will be required to thoroughly research the position of the country.
If you are a graduate student or a young professional that wishes to participate applications can be found here. Please submit applications to Kausar_Asrhaf@carleton.ca by April 29, 2010.
