China: The Fishery Policy and WTO Training Project 2000–2002
This project was one of the sub-projects for China under the Public Sector Reform Program (PSRP) financed by the CIDA and executed by Agriteam Canada Consulting Ltd. based in Calgary. CTPL was selected to design and deliver the two-year training program with the Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences (CAFS) and the Bureau of Fisheries of the Ministry of Agriculture (MOA) of the Chinese government. The overall objective of the sub-project was to strengthen the capacity of China in adjusting its fishery sector policies to meet China's WTO obligations and to promote continuing economic reforms in the fishery sector and sustainable fishery development and management. The project's purpose was to equip the Chinese officials, researchers and senior business executives with WTO-consistent fishery policies and Canada's experience and expertise in fishery policy formulation and fishery resource management. The project has had an impact on the accelerated economic reforms in the fishery sector with continuing economic growth and better protection of fishery resources and the environment.
