Russia: Trade Policy Capacity Building 1999–2004
The main goal of this successfully completed CIDA-funded project was assisting Russia to participate more effectively in the international trading system. The project focused on short-term technical assistance to the Russian MEDT on WTO accession issues such as transparency, consultation and trade coordination, longer-term capacity building through the further development of a self-financing local think tank (CTPL Moscow) and the development of local training capacity (new courses and programs in trade issues) at partner universities in Moscow and St. Petersburg. The project also developed and managed an internship program that provided work experience for young Canadian and Russian professionals interested in working in the international trade area. CTPL's main partner in Russia was CTPL Moscow, a Russian-owned and operated private organization that was established with the direct assistance of CTPL in the first phase of previous CIDA-sponsored project.
