Russia: Trade Policy Project 2000–2003

In 2000, Department For International Development (DFID) agreed to a 3-year program of technical assistance to support capacity building in the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade (MEDT) in Russia; the reform of trade-related legislation to make it more consistent with WTO Agreements; and awareness raising on trade policy. A consortium led by the UK Adam Smith Institute (ASI) was awarded the contract for the project in which CTPL participated as a consortium member and sat on the project's steering committee. The RTPP was intended to move Russia towards legal and economic reforms which would assist it in integrating into the world economy. A definable aspect of such a move was accession to the World Trade Organisation (WTO), the terms of admission to which required legal and economic reforms consistent with the major trading nations of the world.
