Ukraine: Trade Policy Capacity Building in 2000–2006

CTPL implemented the CIDA-funded multi-year project to assist Ukraine with its accession to the WTO and its more effective participation in the international trading system. The project addressed the short-term technical assistance needs of the Ukrainian Ministry of Economy and European Integration (MEEI) in Ukraine's bid to join the WTO. There was a significant focus in this project on long-term capacity building issues, particularly in raising the level of domestic international trade expertise. Working in the Ukraine, CTPL provided trade policy and law advice as well as training, particularly in the areas of WTO accession and implementation activities to both public and private sectors, enhancing their capacity for international trade. CTPL assistance has been used to increase the capacity of local academic institution partners to provide educational programs on trade policy and law issues. Through its projects, CTPL helped to expand the range of opportunities available to young Ukrainian professionals in various areas of international trade and business.
