Speaker Series

The CETA negotiation simulation will be complemented by an active speaker series on specific issues related to the negotiations and their successful outcome. This series of workshops, seminars and other outreach activities will be designed to build greater public awareness and interest in the CETA negotiations. Specific topics for the speakers’ series will be determined based on an analysis of the key issues facing Canada-EU negotiations at the time of the scheduled events and the relative contribution that the project can make to understanding and dealing effectively with those issues. The project will also offer private briefings to Canadian trade officials, economic counsellors and other diplomatic representatives in Ottawa from the EU mission and member states.

For the public events, speakers will be invited to present a special lecture which will be hosted at Carleton University. Students and government officials and members of the public will be invited to attend. Each speaking event will be attended by two student rapporteurs who will cover the discussion and write a four page conference report which will be published on CTPLs’ website. CTPL will engage primarily students from its two sponsoring institutions, The Norman Paterson School of International Affairs at Carleton University and the law faculty at the University of Ottawa. Students will be selected based on their research interests and the quality of their writing.
