International Trade in Textiles and Clothing after the Uruguay Round: Opportunities and Challenges for ESCWA Countries (1997)

This paper reviews the textiles and clothing trade in the ESCWA countries, summarizes key elements of the Agreement on Textiles and Clothing (ATC) concluded in the Uruguay Round, and examines the implementation of the ATC during the first and second stages of the integration process. In particular, it reviews the integration process of the ATC in major developed importing countries, and its impact on different groups of exporting countries. The paper also identifies expanded trading opportunities and associated challenges arising from the implementation of the ATC for developing countries, with particular reference to countries in the ESCWA region.
